From New York City in the United States to Belem in Brazil, a series of international events in the coming year highlights the global focus on sustainability – and the important role Brazil and the carbon credit market have to play in tackling climate change.
Carbon credits are a cross-border project involving businesses, investors, and law firms from outside Brazil. Validated Brazilian carbon credits are sold on the international market, so to maximise their impact it’s essential that discussions take place on a global level. With that objective, members of the Vieira Rezende team attended Climate Week in New York in September 2024.
Climate Week NYC is an important event that brings together senior international figures from business, government, civil society, and the climate sector to address climate change, nature loss, and pollution. With a series of meetings and seminars in the diary, our focus for 2024 was to promote the potential in Brazil’s carbon credit market, discuss the current challenges, and explore what’s needed to address them.
In the lead up to Climate Week NYC our team joined Brazilian businesses and academics at Columbia University in New York for the Brazil Climate Summit. The Summit’s aim was to position Brazil as a global hub for climate solutions – and a big element of this is the carbon credit market.
Vieira Rezende were represented at both New York events and involved in progressing conversations on the important topic of carbon credits. Climate Week NYC 2024 is even more significant in the lead up to the 2025 UN Climate Change Conference (COP 30) in Belem in Brazil’s Amazon region – an essential biome for combating climate change and central to Brazil’s carbon credit market.
