50th anniversary of the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships (MARPOL)
The commitment of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) to the preservation of the marine environment is highlighted today, on September 28th, World Maritime Day, especially because in 2023, we celebrate the 50th anniversary of the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships (MARPOL), the primary global treaty for the prevention of pollution of the marine environment from ships due to intentional, operational, or accidental causes.
Over the years, MARPOL has significantly contributed to making maritime transportation safer and more sustainable.
In response to an invitation by the IMO, all professionals in the maritime industry are using the hashtag #WorldMaritimeDay on their social media. After nightfall, the IMO headquarters in London will be bathed in blue light to promote World Maritime Day 2023. Brazil will participate in this initiative by illuminating various landmarks, including the National Congress.
The Maritime team is available in case of doubts.
