Antaq modifies the rules on abusive collection of the Terminal Handling Charge (THC)
Antaq's Resolutions numbers 107 and 108, published on November 3rd, 2023, modify the methodology for determining abuses in collecting the Terminal Handling Charge (THC). This charge is levied by shipowners/carriers calling at Brazilian port facilities on users such as importers and cargo receivers.
According to Antaq, these Resolutions aim to improve the methodology in order to clarify situations in which the requirement for an invoice is not applicable at the time of calculation, taking into account the specific case.
Given the concerns already expressed by long-haul shipowners, Antaq's Board of Directors has granted the technical departments a 15-day period, prior to the implementation of the referred Resolutions, to adopt measures to guarantee the confidentiality of any information and documents that may be requested to investigate irregularities, in accordance with the methodology set out in the standard.
The Maritime team is available in case of doubts.
