Our team is able to advise on issues such as: dispute settlement (including judicial and administrative litigation), consultancy, negotiation with public entities (including environmental agencies and the Public Prosecutor’s Office), environmental licensing, analysis of environmental studies, audits and assessment of environmental responsibilities (civil, administrative and criminal). Our team is dedicated to analyzing the environmental aspects of various operations, including M&A, buying, selling, financing and leasing assets and real estate.
Together with the Infrastructure and the Banking & Finance team, we advise on the development and financing of major infrastructure projects involving the energy, port, road and other sectors.
In addition, the joint and coordinated performance of Vieira Rezende's Environmental, Labour, Litigation and Maritime areas led to the formation of the Safety, Environment and Health (SMS) group, which provides legal advice in bringing solutions which combine security, efficiency in the use of resources and prevention to damages to the image of our clients.
In partnership with the Maritime and Labor teams, the emergency response team has been at the forefront of the largest maritime accidents of the last 20 years, involving explosions, stranding, collisions, capsizing, fires, marine pollution and personal accidents, having in its trackrecord the two most serious accidents of the offshore industry in Brazil, both caused by explosions in offshore units.
Most recently, Vieira Rezende's Environmental team has been advising clients on renewable energy issues and implementing climate change policies and mitigation measures, REDD +, carbon project due diligence, negotiating, and sale of carbon credits from the regulated and voluntary markets, as well as the implementation of payment for environmental services (PSA) projects, low carbon programs and environmental assets (forests, biodiversity, water resources, among others).
